VE1AIC FBB PACKET BBS
The VE1AIC Packet BBS has been in continuous operation (24/7/365)
since June of 1986.
For most of those years it ran BBS code on DOS with BPQ networking.
At first using W0RLI C-code, hand-compiled, then later with F6FBB's
FBB BBS. When DSL connections to the InterNet became available, the old
486 PC with DOS was upgraded to a whoppin P-233 running Suse9 Linux so
that both RF and InterNet connections were available.
So 30+ years later the BBS is "still tickin" although the user and message
activity has dropped dramtically. Still, with regional MARCAN RF packet
connections and the 'EMO' packet network it is still widely accessable.
The VE1AIC BBS has a port on the 440mhz Truro backbone, connected to the
145.01 MARCAN Packet Network, as well as a 220mhz port on the EMO network,
reachable from VY2EMO nodes.
A LAN port on 147.510mhz with VE1CRA-1 gives local access from the Churchill,
PEI node site.
The Internet port was originally setup for message and bulletin forwarding
as the HF forwarding on 15m and then 20m was unreliable.
However, this InterNet port is available to any licensed HAM who
wishes to use it by Telnet to ve1aic.no-ip.com port 6300.
There are still packet BBS's operational in Charlottetown, Moncton,
and Yarmouth so please support your local Sysop.
2013-03
The Old PC's gave way to the Raspberry Pi's in 2013.
The Old Linux box with MFJ tncs was replaced with a new R-Pi-B computer with
TNC-Pi TNC on UHF (440) and a TNC-X USB TNC for VHF (220).
